Plan 9 sysadmin logs

Note: Most recent entries come first

***2007-04 (John Floren): Removed pham from system in the interest of security, maintenance, and because there is currently no need for such a system. Hard drive remains unformatted, so pham can be reinstated into the system quickly.

***2007-04-01 (John Floren): Added user naq0676 for Nick Quaranto.

***2007-03-29 (John Floren): Another machine has been added to the system. 'pham' uses csplan9 for file and authentication, providing additional cpu services.

***2007-03-12 (John Floren): A profile that will give you smaller fonts can be found in /usr/john/lib/profile

***2007-03-01 (John Floren): Disabled ftpd due to a brute force attack. A mistake in restarting listen services necessitated rebooting the machine.

***2007-02-26 (John Floren): I can't be completely sure, but the problem appears to be solved. passwd now works properly. I think the problem may have been a conjunction of a mistakenly removed 'ip=' field in /lib/ndb/local and a messed up nvram. After rebooting and giving new values for the nvram data, then fixing the network database, everything seems to work okay.

***2007-02-25 (John Floren): There seems to be some problem with the keyfs. When I type auth/keyfs, I get the following message: readnvram: couldn't find nvram can't read /dev/key, please enter machine key Password: I'm not sure what that means; I've asked 9fans for some assistance. I think the nvram partition may have become corrupted in some way. I'll try clearing and resetting it next time I can get to the console.

***2007-02-21 (John Floren): Added user ats for Professor Schreiner

***2007-02-20 (John Floren): Installed CPU/auth/file server kernel. Initially, booting the new kernel would cause aux/vga to fail with a complaint about "mkvbe: '/dev/realmode' file does not exist". This was solved by modifying /rc/bin/cpurc to bind '#P' along with the other devices. Server now accepts drawterm connections. Also configured the mail and http services. Compiled and installed links (web browser), bsfirc and epic (irc clients), and bsflite (AIM client).
