QFiler v3.1le by Jamestown Software Registration $ 20.00 UTIL MAR91 QFILER JAMESTOWN FILE DIRECTORY MANAGEMENT FILES: qfil31le.sdn Update (Obtained directly from the author's support BBS) QFiler is an easy file management system that opens two windows betwen directories or disks. Supports tag, point and shoot, archivers your edit, a file viewer ans more. NEW LHA.EXE SUPPORTED: ---------------------- The file compression utility LHARC.EXE is now distributed as LHA.EXE. This version of QFILER (QF) has been tested with the beta 2.05 version of LHA (released as the self-extracting file LHA205.EXE). QF detects both LHARC.EXE and LHA.EXE, and utilizes the new features included in LHA.EXE if it is available. QF checks all directories listed in your PATH statement, so you can speed things up if the subdirectory containing LHA.EXE (and other programs supported by QF) is listed as one of the first directories in your "PATH=" statement. NOTE: A bug was corrected in QF version 3.1LD which resulted in LHARC not being recognized. LHA & PKZIP SELF-EXTRACTING EXE'S MAY BE ZOOMED ----------------------------------------------- Self-extracting EXE files created by PKZip, LHArc and LHA are treated as "normal" compressed files when Ctrl-Z (PKZip) or Ctrl-L (LHArc/LHA) is used. Files may be extracted, viewed and zoomed. It's up to you, however, to select the "correct" compression utility. EXTENDED SUBDIRECTORY SELECTION: -------------------------------- The parent of subdirectory is now shown as "PARENT" rather than . This small change now guarantees the parent listing will be the first line shown in a QF window. Several short-cut keys have been added to QF to facilitate subdirectory selection: If a subdirectory is the currently selected line in a QF window, pressing ENTER will display that directory on the current side of the screen. Pressing the "." (period) key at ANY time will display the parent of the current directory on the current side; pressing the "<" key will display the parent on the left side, while pressing the ">" key will display the parent on the right. Long subdirectory names created with extensions (for example, MYBACKUP.001) are now handled correctly in QF's PICK function. QFILER on NETWORKS: ------------------- Although previous versions of QF are widely used on Novell networks, feedback indicates that QF sometimes attempted to write temporary files to the root directory of a disk -- when a network user may not have access to the root directory! This version of QF allows a path to be defined that QF will use to write its temporary files. To implement this feature you must create a QFPATH.CFG text file -- which is expected to contain a single line indicating a subdirectory path which may be used to store temporary files. QFPATH.CFG must be located in a pathed directory for which a user has access. The path it identifies must also be accessible by a user. For example, if the subdirectory C:\QFILER is a public directory, place the QFPATH.CFG file in that directory. The QFPATH.CFG would contain "C:\QFILER". QF will use the defined path to store all QFPATH.FILs (used for the PICK option) and to store a temporary file created when an ARC-ZOOM function is selected. Network managers suggest that a user's local drive may be a good choice to use for both the QFPATH.CFG file and the path it contains. NOTE: While this feature was added to solve problems on networks, it is very useful for non-network users as well! OTHER CHANGES: -------------- A bug was corrected which resulted in QF's Ctrl-E function not working properly when running under 4DOS. This version of QF will swap itself to EMS or disk when shelling to DOS or executing other programs. This feature may be disabled by running QFINST with /SWAP as a command-line parameter (Windows doesn't like DOS programs trying to manage memory on their own). QF will release all memory except about 30K. NOTE: If you don't have EMS memory, you probably will want to disable this feature (unless you need large amounts of memory to run other programs from within QF) -- swapping to disk is relatively slow! _____________________________________________________________ (SDA format (c)Copyright 1990 The SDN Project - SDNet/Works!) _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________
