PC-IDENT ======== Reports copyright information found in system's ROM BIOS code. Useful in determining BIOS source vendor and variations due to clone manufacturer. PC-IDENT is a stand alone utility which may be used to identify the real manufacturer of your machine and the ROM BIOS it contains. This program displays the most likely copyright message, as well as all ASCII strings which match certain search criteria. If PC-INFO does not return the correct manufacturer or model, please run PC-IDENT and send us a copy of the output so that we may upgrade PC-INFO to recognize your machine/model. What's new in this version: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The base addresses of all Serial and Parallel Ports are now shown on the output screen, along with the previously reported number of ports. Weitek 3167 numeric coprocessors are now recognized & identified, in additon to the more common Intel varieties.PC-INFO reports the presence of a Weitek NDP regardless of whether the INTEL 80387 is installed or not. The signature 'IBM COMPATIBLE' or 'IBM IS TRADEMARK..' in the ROM BIOS now cause machines to be identified as clones rather than as true IBM machines. PC-INFO now handles LCD display on Toshiba 1600 laptops correctly. In addition, certain EPSON Equity models, the COMPAQ Deskpro 286 and Portable 286,the TI DeskPro and a selection of new NEC,Sperry, Toshiba & Zenith laptop models are uniquely recognized by PC-INFO. Improved recognition code for Data General & NCR machines. AT&T's 6836 WGS series are identified as either Olivetti or INTEL based. IBM PS/2 Model 55 and 70P machines have been added to the machines recognized by PC-INFO. The /m option has been revised to so that swapping back to screen 1 from screen 2 will not cause certain LCD displays to display in reverse video unexpectadly. Extended memory on systems running DOS 4.00 or later now have the amount of available extended memory reported, rather than just the amount installed. (This is consistant with the amount reported by Int 16, function 88h.) When L/I/M Expanded Memory is present, the EMS version is now displayed, along with the amount of memory. Bug fixed such that IBM PS/2 Model 70/80 now correctly report the amount of installed extended memory. All IBM PS/2 Model 50s will be identified as 'IBM PS/2 Model 50/50Z', since they're identical except for the disk size & speed. _____________________________________________________________ (SDA format (c)Copyright 1990 The SDN Project - SDNet/Works!) _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________
