About Photobug
By day, I'm an Aussie earning my permie status by working as a Oracle and Unix Systems Administrator for an internet development company in Richmond, United Kingdom. Leaving my old consulting job at Oracle Corporation Australia in early 2001, I arrived in London with a Working Holiday Visa and picked up this job after being unemployed for nearly two months.
Since my big move to London, it has been difficult to say the least. I see friends return back to Sydney only to find it difficult holding onto those existing friendships in London that mean something and hoping nothing ever changes. And although I meet new faces with WH visas in London and on travels, such relationships feel "distant". So I guess "Photobug" encompasses all these images of being a "Stranger in a Strange Land".
I try to do some travelling and cycling when I get a break from my busy schedule. I also make a conscious effort to pursue my creative interests in photography and design - something I regrettably abandoned during my high-school days as a creative arts student. Finally, I'm a big fan of U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Live, and have a real craving for finding unreleased and B-side material from these artists.
On the subject of photography, I use the Canon A20 Powershot digital camera purely for convenience and spontaneity. However, I still prefer the beauty of experimenting with different types of film and shooting techniques provided by my Canon EOS 300V SLR camera, which also comes with a huge 300mm telephoto zoom lense.
Photobug is not my first site. My U2 fan site U2 Active is my very first real one. And there is the now defunct Travellogger where I share my travel ideas in the hope someone shares theirs - now not updated and never will be due to the huge amount of work in updating the site and the little success it has made in making people share their ideas on travel.
Photobug was built using Movable type for the content and pages. Gimp and Corel Photopaint for graphics.
