This is Gnopher v 0.2 by Stefan Rieken <StefanRieken@SoftHome.net>
==================================================================
Codename: "I Forgot Who To Name This One After" [1]

Welcome to Gopherspace! Your journey is about to begin...

WHAT IS GNOPHER
===============

Gnopher is Gopher for GNOME. Once an ugly standalone, now it is fully
integrated with Nautilus, for your viewing pleasure. The 0.2 release is the
first release with this integration, so be aware that it is very different
from the 0.1 release.

Improvements since the previous (0.1) release:
- ALL known GUI issues have been eliminated by turning the standalone app
  into a GnomeVFS plugin and Nautilus view. This has also added a whole
  range of new functionality, including, but not limited to, the possibility to
  view all kinds of different files in your browser window, as well as support
  for themeing. To the user, nothing is the same :-)

Known issues:
- free() ? What's that? (_Very_ general issue.)
- Location of the installation of gnome-vfs and oaf are hardcoded to
  /usr/share, see src/Makefile.am if you need a different location.

Remember, these are _known issues_, so if you want to complain about any of
these, please do it by means of a patch, or by providing me with a concrete
solution. But I'd still like to hear about other issues.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
===================

This package uses, and thus depends on (WFM = Works/ Worked For Me):

- Some common UNIX and GNU string and file functions
  WFM: Debian GNU/ Linux 3.0 (woody/ testing)

- A GNOME installation w. Nautilus and the GNOME VFS installed
  WFM: Debian GNU/ Linux 3.0 (woody/ testing)

- GNet libary
  WFM: 1.0.4, 1.1.0

- For compilation, the requisite development packages.

COMPILATION AND INSTALLATION
============================

See the file INSTALL for general instructions. Furthermore, be sure to restart
oafd and Nautilus! (Hint: if you restart oafd, Nautilus will crash anyway, so
that's probably the easiest way :-)

And, oh yeah...

CONTRIBUTORS
============

Patches etc. are very welcome. For anything on this matter,
<mailto:StefanRieken@SoftHome.net>.

For the sake of simplicity, I would like to stay the single copyright holder
for this package. Why? Because it might be sensible to push out some LGPL libs
later, for inclusion with the GNOME VFS or Nautilus sources. Also, it might be
sensible to give over the copyright to a larger authority such as the FSF.
If you think I'm exaggerating the case, just lemme know (with arguments
please).

Here is my "planned (and revised :-) release schedule":

0.1 "Works For Me" Initial release; works for me :-)
0.2 "I Forgot Who To Name Nautilus integration; beta stage
      "This One After"
0.x   [..]				Beta releases
1.0 "And Now For The Plus" Considered complete, no Gopher+
1.0.x [..]				Leftover bugfixes

1.1 "Working On The Plus" Initial Gopher+ support
1.1.x [..]				Beta releases

2.0 "The Plus" Considered complete, with Gopher+
2.0.x [..]				Leftover bugfixes

Release names are not set in stone.

Wonder how far I'll get anyway :-)

HOW TO BE GRATEFUL :-)
======================

OK, so if you really, REALLY like this stuff... I'm looking for a place to host
my website. Personal information, promotion of my software, but for the main
part, promotion of my cartoonist work. Requirements are PHP and MySQL support.
Not really requiring a spiffy domain name. <mailto:StefanRieken@SoftHome.net>
if you're interested.
