.SH DESCRIPTION
.I generic_options
are options supported by the generic \f4labelit\f1 command.

\f4labelit\f1
can be used to provide labels for unmounted  \f4s5\f1 disk
file systems or \f4s5\f1 file systems being copied to tape.
.PP
With the optional arguments omitted,
\f4labelit\f1
prints current label values.
.PP
The
.I special\^
name should be the disk partition (e.g.,
\f4/dev/rdsk/c0d0s6\f1),
or the cartridge tape (e.g.,
\f4/dev/rSA/ctape1\f1).
The device may not be on a remote machine.

The
.I fsname\^
argument represents the mounted name (e.g.,
\f4root\f1,
\f4u1\f1,
etc.)
of the file system.

.I Volume\^
may be used to equate an internal name to a volume
name applied externally to the disk pack, diskette or tape.

For file systems on disk,
.I fsname\^
and
.I volume\^
are recorded in 
the superblock.

The options are:

Specifies the \f4s5\f1-FSType.
Used to ensure that an \f4s5\f1
file system is labelled.

Provides for initial tape labeling only
(This destroys the previous contents of the tape).
