.SH NAME
xevent \- event monitor for X window system

.SH SYNOPSIS

.B xevent
[ option ] ...

.SH DESCRIPTION

\fIxevent\fP
lets you interactively monitor events on several windows simultaneously.
You are able to selectively monitor only those events of interest
on a per window basis.
These can be changed at any time.
Output is sent to \fBstdout\fP and optionally to a log file.
.PP
Event and window selection is done interactively using the
\fIxevent\fP
window which is comprised of a set of \fIcommand buttons\fP and \fIevent buttons\fP.
The format of these buttons is controlled using the options described below.
There are 6 command buttons and 25 event buttons
(one for each possible event mask).
When you start up
\fIxevent\fP
you will be asked to select an initial window to monitor.
This window is referred to as the \fIcurrent window\fP.
The
\fIxevent\fP
window highlights the event buttons for those events
being monitored on the current window.
Events to monitor can be selected/unselected for the current window by clicking
on the corresponding event button.
.PP
There are 3 event masks that can be selected
by at most 1 client for a given window.
These events are \fIButtonPress\fP, \fIResizeRedirect\fP, and
\fISubstructureRedirect\fP.
If you attempt to select one of these event masks and it is
already selected, \fIxevent\fP will beep at you.
