It looks like I spoke too soon in my last entry. This week has been crazy
as well and I have not been able to fully decompress. Today, my day
started at 4AM, ended at 1PM, slept for a bit, and then started again at
10PM and finishing at 7AM. We have an application going live at work
and it needs to be implemented after hours. At least I have most of
Thursday to rest and have Friday off to rest even more at the beach!
Yay, long weekend!
Man, I hate these long stretches of work and funny schedules. It totally
throws me off these days. All of my bandwidth goes towards work and
anything left goes to the family. Not much time for myself, which I wrote
about previously. I think that when I was younger, I was able to handle
these types of schedules and bounce back much better than I do these
days. Boring routine is better for me.
This past weekend I evicted my son from the game room and migrated
his gaming rig to his bedroom. Since I will be working from home now
on a more permanent basis, I need to set up my own work area. I did
share my office with my wife since I was only working from home once
a week, but now that things have changed, I cannot share the office with
her. It is just too distracting and she is on the phone all of the time
since she works in sales. It gets really bad when we are both on the
phone at the same time. I really need my own work environment with a
door so I decided to take over the game room.
My son was excited to have his computer in his room. I was able to use
one of those powerline ethernet adapters instead of running a new line
to his room. The speed is good enough.
Since this COVID-19 thing started, I have been moving computers around,
setting up and tearing down work spaces, searching for parts and cables,
cleaning work areas, etc. It has been a bit much for me and I hope things
will settle down soon so I can get back to computing.
By the time all is said and done with this work day, I'm gonna have to
flush all the coffee out of my system and actually sleep. I've been running
on coffee for way too long and body is hating me. Sometimes that's what
you gotta do to survive the work. I love coffee but don't like it when I
get to this point where my gut is screaming at me and I gotta shave my
tongue. It's just not enoyable anymore.
