I should probably be going to bed but I don't feel like it
just yet. I was going to read, but decided to write some.
I have been dealing with some more issues regarding my
irresponsibility lately that have come to fruition. I have
this 2017 Chevy Bolt that I've been using as my daily
commuter/grocery getter for the past couple years.
Apparently, I neglected to renew the plates _last_ year. I
found this out when I was looking for my DMV receipt to
deduct from my 2018 taxes. I could not find it and realized
that I did not register at all for 2018. The matter at hand
were the taxes, so I figured that I would deal with the
registration later. Taxes were filed, life went on.
Fast forward to Easter. I took my daughter to the park in
our Easter Sunday's best to play some croquet. I parked my
car in the parking lot by the dog park. Same park where the
guitar incident occurred. [1] We got out, got the equipment,
set up the field, and played a round of croquet. By the end
of the first game, it was getting warm and we decided to pack
it up.
When we got home, I noticed something on my windshield, which
I did not notice previously. It was a parking ticket. I was
like, WTF?! It was for expired plate that I neglected to
take care of. Oh. I was not looking forward to spending a
day at the DMV. Since the mini van was not being used, I
drove that instead. For the next month.
So my car sat in my garage for the next month while I kept
procrastinating on visiting the DMV. Also, I knew it was
going to cost me a bit of money so I just kept up with my
daily routine with work, family, chores, etc.
Last week, I woke up and decided to take a sick day to deal
with the DMV. I anticipated having to wait at least half the
day since I had no appointment, so I brought a book.
Fortunately, I was able to get to the counter faster than I
anticipated. It turns out that I had some unpaid parking
tickets that I had to pay on top of this year and last year's
registration + late fees, etc. It was not cheap, but only a
couple hundred more than I was anticipating, which isn't
really saying much of anything at all. Do you know how many
things you can buy at the dollar store for a couple hundred
dollars?
So I got that done and it only took 1 hour, 30 minutes, 1
sick day, and too much cash wasted foolishly. on something
that could have been prevented. I did walk away with
registered plates, the ability to drive my car again legally,
some peace of mind that it was taken care of, and a reason to
yell at the teenager in me.
Fast forward to this past Wednesday. I had spent about an
hour in the park practicing my guitar, killing time before an
appointment I had to keep. My guitar playing went into
overtime and I had to rush to my appointment. On the way
there, I got caught in a speed trap. I was clocked at going
86 mph in a 65 zone. I was cited for speeding by a highway
patrolman who looked like he was in his early 20's. Also, my
proof of insurance was not in the glove box, so I have to
bring that to court. I got my ticket and went on my way.
WTF is going on with me? I keep fucking up these seemingly
trivial tasks that most responsible people seem to do with
ease. I know how to do these things and I have the means to
get these things done. I just don't seem to be doing these
things. Maybe the irresponsible teenager in me is acting out
because he needs attention. Maybe he is sick of being a
responsible adult and needs to wreak havoc. Maybe he doesn't
like being ignored. Maybe he does not want to be forgotten.
I'll have to ruminate on this one further. Perhaps the
answers will come after I have rested. Perhaps it will be
revealed in my dreams.
Time to sleep.
