SUBJECT: .. text/enriched vs. gopher clients?

       smallm,

Concerning formatting text in a gopher client: I'm not sure about mobile
clients, but the VF-1 client lets you specify a handler for different file
types, including text/plain. I use the following line in my .vf1rc file to
       add highlights for markdown:

       handler text/plain pygmentize -l md %s

I suppose you could have it do any number of things to your text, including
modifying line breaks, fold, par, etc.

The most sensical thing for mobile to work properly would be to have
authors not insert manual line breaks in their text. But, this won't
happen. The line breaks are a relic of the past, and they're part of the
charm. Plus, it's folly to rely on the content providers to be in sync.

Slightly less sensical perhaps would be to make a mobile client that either
strips excess lines breaks, or lets you pinch-zoom the font size. I think
the latter would be best, actually. It's been a while since I've done much
gopher on mobile, perhaps one of the clients has this by now.
