BETTERCP/M COMPATIBILITY & CONFORMANCE
                           ======================================

                           PURPOSE
                           -------

This section defines and records the compatibility requirements
used to determine whether BetterCP/M reproduces the CP/M 2.2
operating environment sufficiently for existing software.

Compatibility is based primarily upon observable behavior rather
than duplication of the internal implementation of Digital
       Research CP/M.

This area will contain compatibility policy, investigation
records, conformance methods, compatibility decisions, and tests
       developed as BetterCP/M is implemented.

                           INITIAL DOCUMENTS
                           -----------------

 (TXT) 1. Compatibility Policy
Defines how documented, observed, de facto, and
           implementation-specific behavior is classified.

 (TXT) 2. Compatibility Ledger
           Records individual compatibility findings, evidence,
BetterCP/M decisions, and associated conformance tests.

 (TXT) 3. Conformance Strategy
Defines reference environments, test methods, regression
testing, and how compatibility claims are validated.

                           STATUS
                           ------

The detailed compatibility structure is intentionally incomplete.

Additional documents will be created as investigation identifies
natural subject areas such as memory conventions, BDOS behavior,
file-system behavior, BIOS compatibility, program loading, and
       boot behavior.

The documentation hierarchy shall grow from actual compatibility
work rather than being fixed in advance.
