Whenever you encounter some kind of apparent pleasure, be on
guard not to be carried away by it, but let the thing wait for
you and allow yourself to delay.

Delaying is a good tactic, for the more time you place between
the temptation and your reaction, the better placed you are to
inform this reaction with reason instead of habitual desire. Not
that it will always work, but at least it will work some of the
time, and it will present you with practice at being more
disciplined, even if it is only in delaying the pleasure, and by
introducing more intentionality into your life and actions.

The memory exercise is also good, keeping the consequences of our
actions in the forefront of our mind in a moment that would
otherwise only have considered the moments pleasure.
