Do you continue to pursue it based on the promises of others? [=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=] Something I have or are pursuing that other people say is worthwhile...Twitter/Facebook/social media in general. I still have accounts, but have not logged in for quite some time. I am on the fence. Part of me fears losing connection with people. That is probably the main reason why I have not shut down the accounts yet. Then again, I don't even connect with people that way so why should I even keep the account open? Even when the accounts were created, I was suspicious of the networks and the data harvesting so I was never fully on board as a participant. There are some sosyal mediaz communities that I am interested in, but even with them, I only check them once in a blue moon. They discuss topics that interest me, but I hardly ever participate. But there is a part of me that thinks "what if I need to access some of the information there." The information there can probably be found elsewhere. Or if I need to, I can probably create a new account or whatever. I think I preferred how things were before, where there were community forums about stuff. Well, there is still that, but sometimes it is a challenge to find those places. The forums these days are quite different, for the most parts. The ones that I still frequent have been around for a long time, like Mobileread or OESF, but even with them, the community changes so much. There is SDF and other smaller communities/pubnix's, but sometimes it seems like not much is going on or at least not much going on that I can participate in. Then there is the other way of looking at this. My pursuit in getting rid of social media. Is it worthwhile? Yes. Is it valuable? i think so. What value do I get from getting rid of it? Freedom, more privacy, peace of mind, ability to spend time on other pursuits, etc. What are the consequences of getting rid of it? Disconnection, missing out (on what?), missing out on who died, kinda sad...I think the most I ever got from my limited exposure to social media is the news of people dying or committing suicide from my past. OK, I'm done. [=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=-=x=]
