2026 September 18 update I know it's been a while, but not much exciting news until as of late. Got a new front door put on the house. I didn't realize how frustrating it is to have a beat up door until you get a new one installed. Also seems to help keep the heat out. Lately I'm fascinated by this thing called a kim-1, it was a computer from the 70s. I came to find out about it when someone posted a video of a 6502 based toggle computer being built. I've always been fascinated about how computers like it worked and how they were programmed. In my search for more information I ran across the KIM-1 which is similar but slightly more advance. So I played around with emulators and then came across the kim1 uno https://obsolescence.wixsite.com/obsolescence/kim-uno-summary-c1uuh which is a kim1 built around the ardruino uno pro mini, a microcontroller that's readily accessible. So I've ordered all the parts and pieces including the custom PCB which was surprisingly easy to get. And now this weekend I get to program the uno and then assemble it. My understanding is that the kim1 uno is expandable just like the original kim-1, so I hope to build some accessories. I already scoped out an ASR-33 teletype which I think would be awesome to interface it, but maybe I'll find something more practical. Oh and my 2011 macbook finally gave up the ghost. it started giving a read/write error so i pulled the hard drive (ssd) and a friend took it off my hands. My new to me desktop is of the same era, it's sporting a Intel i5 3rd gen but at least it has a dedicated GPU so there's something. I do have a buddies intel 10th gen or so computer he was going to throw in the trash I just need to order the case and I'll have a spare.
