# Photostrip Comics

Yesterday I was catching up on the
latest issue of Judge Dredd magazine.  I
am a late-comer, and very casual fan of
comics.  I didn't start reading them
until I was 30, and I enjoy them as
another interesting way to tell stories
rather than being a hardcore comics fan.
I subscribed to the Dredd magazine just
to keep in touch with the only popular
British comics worth talking about.

In the latest issue they have a feature
article about Doomlord, a photocomic
from Eagle in the 80s.  I don't think
I've seen a photocomic before--it
immediately caught my attention.  In
case you're not sure, it's a comic with
photos instead of illustrations.  I
don't know how I've never thought of
this before.

Ideas it gave me:

- A way to do things people do very
  poorly in video--a droning video essay
  becomes a zippy photocomic

- Lends itself to present-day
  stories--pick some people that
  photograph well and go out and about

- Cheap one-man-band production--write
  it, take the photos on your phone,
  print them out and glue them down, add
  speech bubbles
