1.  A place where using a networked
    computer feels like something positive,
    social, and constructive.

2.  Somewhere to write things down --
    not somewhere to "be a writer".

3.  People, real people on the other
    side of the world, to interact with;
    to email, check their finger
    updates, read their phlogs.
