# Posting on Gopher vs. the Web Sometimes I wonder where best to post something. If I feel something applies to both web and gopher domains, I post it on both, otherwise just to one. I don't generally like linking to web resources from gopher - but that is limiting. Sometimes I'll read something on a (web) blog and think I have something to say on it, and think that it would be best posted on the web, rather than gopher. But then I feel that gopher lacks content, and could use more of it - so do I link to the web content [0], archive it on gopher [1], selectively quote it [2], or just don't post it on gopher at all? Some sites have a web-to-gopher proxy and just post to gopher, mirroring all their gopher posts to the web automatically. If the proxy recognizes links in text files, this can make it easy to link to websites and forget about it. I don't like this as it assumes content is suitable for both domains. Another issue is that the automatic proxies give free rein to the AI bots to hammer one's gopher server. I don't think gopher itself is on the radar of the web bots [3], and I'd like to keep it that way. I like the idea of archiving of web content as text (lynx -nolist -nonumbers -dump...) on gopher, with the original link somewhere in the archived text. Relevant images are an issue; if you want to keep content on gopher, they need to be downloaded and probably resized. All of this is a lot of work, or at least a lot more work than adding a simple link to your gopher post. So is it worth straddling both domains, curating independent web and gopher sites?
