# Email and X-Files I exchanged some nice emails with John of g4slv.cloud about gopher vs. www hosting, and when one or both might be preferable. I talked about my preferences before [0][1], and I read today that John has also decided to go gopher-only [2]. John's gopher site is very interesting, I particularly like the sections on diaries and pencils [3], and RPN calculators [4]. Give it a visit! Ricardo at fatelectron.net talks about X-Files and nostalgia [5]: ...I'm deep into a re-watch of The X-Files. I'm on my 40s, and something about seeing this show again in 2025 is hitting me hard. ... They say "the old days were better," and maybe that's just nostalgia talking. Maybe I'm just missing a time when I didn't have to worry about mortgages and the things that come with being an adult. But I wonder, does anyone else feel this? This deep pull to the atmosphere of the 80s/90s? Is it just a trick of memory, or did we lose something when the world became so connected and so... explained? I'm a bit older than Ricardo, and I remember 80s and 90s TV fondly. I still enjoy watching X-Files episodes today, along with that show's spinoff, "The Lone Gunmen", and other staples like "Star Trek: TNG". But shows like the X-Files that showcase life in the 90s do often evoke a nostalgic feeling in me - it seemed like a simpler time, even though I was an adult by then. Speaking the X-Files, huld.re's gopher has a great section on that show's trivia and episode notes [6], and SDF's Schroeder has some interesting commentary on some of the early episodes [7], and how they relate to 90s tech and life in general.
