I have fallen down the rabbit hole of what it takes to manufacture goods. This fascination is a culmination of my interest in 3D printing and a recent dive into Andrew Huang's book, The Hardware Hacker: Adventures in Making and Breaking Hardware. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in what goes on behind the scenes of how products are made. This book, being fresh in my mind, led me to spend extra time looking at the 3D printing section at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center which featured the R.J. Hillan Multitool. I knew immediately that I would go home and print it (or build my own) if I couldn't find the STL. I find it so fascinating that you could potentially email a file to space and have it produced on a 3D printer. The one piece of info that I have yet to find (Need to take time to search) is the type of hooks the astronauts use for tethering these tools. A hook, along with a spot for velcro, were mentioned, are the two additions I want to do to make it authentic. The display piece lacked either for reference. This deep dive has been fun, the last time I got this interested in an object was the STUG. III assault gun... But that is another post for another time.
