------------------------------------------------------------ Tiny Technology, (sdf.org), 09/06/2018 ------------------------------------------------------------ When I was a kid, my mother would drive me around to all of the antique stores. I absolutely loved looking at the old trinkets and treasures, and was especially fond of the tiny collectibles. I eventually bought up a bunch of tiny things, though I can't recall exactly what they were now. Tiny technology has always been fascinating to me as well. The PDA days were a heyday for me, which I enjoyed quite thoroughly (thanks ebay.) I even had that Fossil Palm PDA watch, before smart watches were cool. The modern "Mobile," I will admit, hasn't been quite as fun. I don't know what was lost, but something was lost, and it never felt that interesting. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. The Raspberry Pi is exceptional I recall before it came out, everyone thought it would be vaporware. A $25 computer! Yeah right! Wow, were we ever wrong. Before the Pi, I purchased a Parallax "Basic Stamp," and programmed up a little project with it. The Pi has it beat in so many ways, though they are different... Anyway, that's a lot to simply say that I've unpacked my Pi3 from storage. This is the one I used to use for my home gopher server and telnet BBS. It's got a 64GB SD, and it used to have a 1TB external drive, but I haven't bothered with that yet. The thing that makes it even more fun for me, and my memories of tiny collectibles, is the little 3.5" TFT display (they crappy backup-camera type) and the itty-bitty keyboard/mouse combo that I have with it. All together it looks just like a miniature computer- how fun for me. Maybe I'm odd, but I suppose that's OK. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with the thing. I'm not sure I need or want to host a gopher server (I have 5 phlogs in gopher space already, dang it, and that's enough phlogs for anybody.) The point is, it's unpacked and setup and working. Let the fun commence.
