Semester started two weeks ago. I'm 21 credits short of my BA, which gives me two semesters or "a year" to go. Then it's off to get my MA. It's not easy working on a degree full-time as a non-trad when you're in your late 50s with a fam and a day job, but the degree is the only thing keeping me from a siginificant increse in in income and getting out of STEM. This weekend is/was the Goshen (CT) Fair. Haven't been in a few years, decided to visit with the fam. I guess the best description would be "enshitified." Ten bucks per adult to get in, twelve dollar corn dogs, six to eight dollars per person per ride on the Midway, and less vendors of interesting stuff. I did however manage to find some nice books from the Goshen Library's book sale tent: a 1943 text on avigation (aeronautical navigation, autobiographies of Chuck Yeager and Eddie Rickenbacke, a coffee table book on American fighter aircraft, and a 1970s text on handguns. All for a Buck each. Left a bunch of older Linux books on the tables for someone else to grab. I've only been actively seeking pre-MSDOS BASIC and assembler books and magazines for the collection. Took down the VHF-Low band antenna yesterday for a little rework. It's a basic 1/4 wave ground-plane design built around a chassis mount SO-239 connector. I originally cut it for ~40 MHz. Decided to shorten it a bit so it'll resonate on the FM portion of the 6 Meter ham band, at which time I'll leave it connected to the AN/URC-200. I see Commodore is back (did they ever go away?) with updated versions of the C64. My first computer upgrade (from the Timex Sinclair 1000) was a Commodore VIC-20. Even had a VIC-Modem with it. My subsequent upgrades went towards Atari with an 800XL and later 130XE simply because my local (literally down the road) BBS ran on Atari hardware so I had a source of software downloads and system upgrades when the SYSOP decided to improve his setup. That's how I got my 130XE. The SYSOP upgraded his box to an Atari ST. Never owned a Commodore 64, 128, or an Amiga. Anyway, the Commodore 77 Cyberpunk verison looks pretty cool, and I think I'm gonna get one. Maybe we'll see some Amateur Radio-related software for it...
