PHR.TXT The Publication Historical Report pertains to the almost 9,000 NWS Cooperative Network sites whose observations are published in NCEI's Climatological Data or Hourly Precipitation Data publications. It is a compilation of elements observed and/or reported for all stations in the COOP program. It uses repeating groups of details by station, data program, element and equipment. The file is sorted by the internal NCEI source, source ID, begin_date, end_date, data_program, element, plot_num, depth, time_of_obs, published_flag. This report is scheduled to be updated monthly. FIELD LENGTH FORMAT POSITION DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOURCE_ID 20 X(20) 001-020 Unique identifier of NCEI source system. SOURCE 10 X(10) 022-031 Name of source NCEI system (MMS, ISIS, GHCND, GHCNM-LT etc). NWS_CLIM_DIV 10 X(10) 033-042 Usually contains a number between 01 and 10 indicating climate division as determined by master divisional reference maps. Assigned by NCEI. COOP_ID 20 X(20) 044-063 Assigned by NCEI, first 2 digits represent state, last 4 digits are assigned numerically by alphabetical ordering of the station name. WBAN_ID 20 X(20) 065-084 Used at NCEI for digital data storage and general station identification purposes. GHCND_ID 20 X(20) 086-105 GHCN-Daily station identification code, populated if included in NCEI GHCN-Daily product. BEGIN_DATE 8 YYYYMMDD 107-114 Beginning date of record, set to 00010101 if date is unknown. END_DATE 8 YYYYMMDD 116-123 Ending date of record, set to 99991231 if station is currently open. ELEMENT 10 X(10) 125-134 Element/phenomenon observed at station (DEWPNTTEMP, EVAP, HUMD, MAX/MINTEM, PRECIP, RSVLKLVL, RIVSTAGE, SNOWDPTH, SNOWWTREQ, SOLR, TEMP, TEMPATOBS, WIND). See descriptor table below for these element definitions. DATA_PROGRAM 30 X(30) 136-165 Data program (COOP SOD = Cooperative Summary of Day, COOP HPD = Cooperative Hourly Precipitation Data). FREQUENCY 30 X(30) 167-196 Frequency of observation time (DAILY, HOURLY, ONCE DAILY, ONCE DAILY - AM, ONCE DAILY - PM, TWICE DAILY, TWICE DAILY - AM/PM). TIME_OF_OBS 8 X(8) 198-205 Time of observation. All COOP HPD stations will have 2400 value. See special TOBS value table below. EQUIPMENT 10 X(10) 207-216 Equipment type. EQUIPMENT_MODS 30 X(30) 218-247 Equipment modifications, displayed in a semi-colon-delimited list. SHLD for shielded equipment, applies to TEMP and PRECIP elements only. RCRD for recording gage, includes equipment type of UNIV, F&P, TB, AHTB, FPR-D, FPR-E, FPU, AWPAG, applies only to PRECIP element. HTD for heated equipment, includes AHTB or AWPAG equipment types. EQUIPMENT_EXPOSURE 30 X(30) 249-278 Equipment exposure notes, displayed in a semi-colon-delimited list. ROOF is exposure noted on roof. BALCONY if exposure noted on balcony. EQUIPMENT_AZIMUTH 20 X(20) 280-299 Equipment azimuth, references the degree distance from the primary rain gage. EQUIPMENT_DISTANCE 20 X(20) 301-320 Distance equipment relocated in localized move. EQUIPMENT_DISTANCE_UNIT 10 X(10) 322-331 Should always be ft. PUBLISHED_FLAG 10 X(10) 333-342 Indicates whether or not the element is published in the NCEI CD (Climatological Data) or HPD (Hourly Precipitation Data) publications, or neither (NULL). FORM_TYPE 30 X(30) 344-373 Indicates form type/reporting method that the station is using to send data to NCEI. RECEIVER 10 X(10) 375-384 Indicates whether NCEI receives data for this element, NCEI or NULL. PLOT_NUM 2 99 386-387 Applicable to soil stations only (elements MAX/MINTEM & TEMPATOBS), Plot number.
