Two reasons it's taken me so long to write a first post:

A) Old habits from maintaining a blog
B) Ignorance about the SDF gopher setup

I got it into my head that I needed to preview drafts. That fixed idea
got me looking into gophernicus. That detour made it obvious that
gophernicus, which SDF uses, already makes things easy for people who
want to skip right to writing. Perhaps if I had looked more closely at the
excellent SDF tutorial I could have saved myself some time ... oh well.

One obvious question is why bother maintaining this phlog when I
already have a blog? Why not tweak my Emacs org-mode based static site
generator and publish the same content to both?

I thought about that, but really what I want from a phlog is quite
different from what I want from my blog. I need a place where I don't
overthink things and where I spend less time pouring over the
words. This isn't to say that I think the phlog should be a dumping
ground, but perhaps it should be more like a notebook, or a scrapbook,
or a folder for drafts that will need future revision.

I suspect the themes found here will be much like my main website:
community-scale technological practice.
