Today is the second day of my shell account on this server. After thinking about the advantages of this account, I have decided to send a donation of $36 to the server to get arpa membership. Hopefully the mail will get all the way to Washington because I did not put a return address. If the mail cannot be delivered, I will have to fill out forms to get the mail from the lost mail pile in some building. I hope my donation helps this organization and grants me a rewarding experience with the unix enviornment. School begins in two days and I still have not finished my summer homework. I still have about 60 pages of a textbook to go, a couple of pages of math, and some lenghty essays to read. I am planning to pull an all nighter today and tomorrow to finish these things as soon as I finish writing this journal entry. In School, I signed up to be in an advanced program called APEX. This stands for Advanced Placement EXperience. After one year in this program, I learned a lot and improved my time management skills to the extreme. This year I have been assigned an incoming APEX'er to mentor. He has only replied to one e-mail that I have sent him and appears not to care much about the APEX program. He is not alone in his thinking. Many of my friends regard to the APEX program as torture. They say that the program is just a bunch of busy work and destroys your social life. While the second is partially true, I find the APEX program reward because it teaches you how to operate under excesive stress and manage your time wisely. I hope this year will be more rewarding then the previous! NOTE: I sound too optimistic, right? Sincerely, Stas D.
