March 18th, 2015: My Tandy 1500HD laptop was thrown out yesterday. Couldn't get it to boot from floppy, and there was no realistic way of passing a boot image to the machine. I no longer have the time or inclination to work on it, so it got the boot. I tested my Tandy Coco 3, a victim of a basement flood a couple of years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it still worked. Cartridge port, joystick ports, etc all worked. I played a round of Robocop (and an even longer round of Rampage!) just to ensure all was well with the system. I've decided to keep the Coco 3 for the time being... I have an uninstalled 512K upgrade that needs a new capacitor, which will be one of the first things I fix once we've moved. I miss playing with the Coco 3. Several years ago I set about upgrading the thing - bought the aforementioned 512K upgrade, an RGB-to-Commodore 1084 monitor adapter, floppy drives, Deluxe RS-232 Pak, and Multi-Pak Interface - and was well on my way to making this thing a killer machine. I even bought Tandy's OS9 Level 2 package on eBay so I could work in a Unix-like multitasking environment! (This was before I'd learned of NitrOS9, the still-current open-source version of Tandy/Microware's OS9) Life, however, intervened and I lost interest in the project (focusing instead on my now-dead Amiga 2000). This proved to be a dumb move on my part, as many of the upgrades I wanted are now no longer available. No modern SCSI controller, no modern IDE/CF controller, and no RealTime Clock... Unless Cloud 9 still have a few for sale (when funds permit), I'll have to scour eBay in order to finally fulfill my plan. -- In other news, I finally got around to setting up MAME on my Linux laptop... was finally able to play Gorf, Bomb Jack, and Rygar on the go! Now that I have MAME running, I'll have to download a few of my old favourite quarter munchers like Moon Patrol, Shinobi, Halley's Comet, and Steel Gunner 2.
