October 22nd, 2015: HEARTBREAK! My heart broke a little today. I headed over the Salvation Army Thrift Store on my lunch hour today, looking for the usual cheap electronic gear, when I saw a familiar shape on one of the shelves... a Powerbook! From a distance, I could tell it was either a 520 or 540. Closer inspection revealed it to be a 520, and underneath it was a Powerbook 190! I've been looking for a cheap 190 for ages, unfortunately, I didn't have the $25 to buy it. Sullen, I put them both back on the shelf and, as I did so, I saw another shelf on the other side that held *more* Powerbooks! I walked over to have a look, and the shelf held six or seven of them. *sigh* There was a 400MHz Pismo, a Wallstreet, a 1400C/166, a 5300c, another 190, a 1400cs, and a 165. Each selling for $25 with no power adapters or, in some cases, batteries. With no way to test them (and not having the funds to fix them if broken), I put them down and walked away. This would have been a Hell of an opportunity had I had the money. I've been wanting a Pismo for years, to replace Nadia (my Lombard) as my main Mac. I've been wanting a 190 forever, too, as I own a couple of 5300-series Powerbooks and the accessories are compatible. The 1400c/166 would have been nice, too, especially if it had had the G3 upgrade card. Judging that these were probably from the same collection (and were well cared for), there may have been a G3 card in that unit... Guess I'll never know....
