October 23rd, 2012: I've decided to go whole-hog. Rather than build the Ultra 5 up piece-by-piece and screw around with adding peripherals, adding new drives to the array as I buy them, pissing around with filesystems, et cetera, I'm going to wait until I have EVERYTHING inhand before starting the rebuild. This makes the most sense to me. Granted, doing things the hard way would be a great learning experience, but I'm not at that level of competence yet. I've ordered two 73Gb SCA drives from a seller on eBay (who had them on sale at $20 a pop), leaving only four slots in the array left to be filled. If we had the money, I would have bought all six, along with a SCSI DVD-ROM drive, but finances are pretty low at the moment... I'm hoping to have all the parts I need by the end of the year, so I can have the Ultra 5 running by the new year.
