26 04 27 12:53PM CST finally officially moved out of michigan almost an entire month ago now. it went well, other than gaining a real job for the first time this decade a week or two before i left only to lose it. but despite that everything worked out so much better than my imagination had been allowing me to ever consider. part of me is as eternally paranoid as ever that something, any possible thing, could go wrong at any moment. but it's all been something of an exercise in learning that maybe things can be fine. and that maybe the overwheamling sense of something bad looming around each corner has more to do with a childhood of surprise random events that fuck over life as you had known it rather than some magical sixth sense for doom on the horizon. bad stuff still happens! and yet, we're fine. its going to take a while to really learn that. but im starting to get it. that said, you'd think someone this afraid of theoretical Bad Stuff happening would play things safe and, you know, not tempt fate by engaging in activities of questionable legality. that would make sense. and YET. lol this city i'm in now awakens the inner mischievous vandal in me like nothing else. there's art on almost every single surface, so long as you stretch your definition of art to include tags, stickers and spraypaint. which i very much already had a long time ago. getting arrested for writing on walls is technically the reason i graduated high school. a nosy woman in a super wealthy suburb calls the cops on a kid for writing on a bridge on a nice sunday morning, a disproportionate amound of bored overpaid cops descend on the scene, and that kid ends up going from high school drop out to passing the GED first try and getting to say they had a 4.0 GPA on job applications now because i scored better than i ever would have assumed i could. it's a dumb story. and im fully aware that any further cop interaction could never end anywhere near as well. but have you ever used a shipping label printer? have you ever made some art, gone across the room to a little machine, and had it spit out an entire bandoleer of graffiti-ready stickers all the while making a delightful thermal printer noise? ugh. it's just so easy.. and fun, until someone sees you slapping one up. :P
