      ABOUT ME

I've been on-again/off-again with Gopher for about 
ten years. I've been a *nix enthusiast for about 
twenty-five years. Over the years, I've become more 
of a power-user and done less and less on the GUI and 
more on the CLI. This has included more text-based 
web browsing and I found I don't really miss all the 
nonsense. I want information, not constant ads and
pop-ups and cookies trying to follow me everywhere 
and email lists I've "subscribed" to by visiting a 
cookie-monster, data-stealing website. So here I am. 
Again.

By profession, I'm a mental health counselor. Why?
People are absolutely fascinating.

I practice Linji Chan Buddhism. I took my novice 
vows in 2011 and made my full profession 2.5 years 
later in 2013. In 2021 I was given lineage
transmission, which is like being formally adopted
into a family tree.

I play the flute (Boehm). I'm alright. I also play 
the Baroque flute. I'm pretty good with that one. 
I play Baroque recorder. I'm pretty good with those,
too. In addition to those, I play several world 
flutes. I really enjoy all of them.

Historic firearms are a passion of mine. I shoot 
everything from the fur trade era to the Wild West
early cartridge firearms. I hand-load almost all 
of my own ammunition. I'm currently working up an 
accuracy load for my 1853 Enfield Rifled Musket. It 
has been proving... elusive.

I have archery targets behind my house and I try 
to shoot often. I shoot longbows and recurve bows. 
I used to shoot compound bows also, but after dry-
firing one and ruining the cams, I decided that it 
is more cost effective to have a top-tier traditional
bow and just put in the time on the range than a 
mid-tier compound with all the gadgets that only 
exist to make up for one's lack of time on the range,
since it costs $200+ to restring and tune a compound
bow and ~$20 to do the same with a trad bow. I'm not
great at math, but I don't have to be for that one.

I like retro video games. There is a theme here, I 
am aware: retro music, retro shooting, retro games.
My current collection includes gameboy color, GBA,
DS, 3DS, Sega Saturn, and Playstation 2.

I ride motorcycles. I have ridden since I was 12yrs 
old. My dad chopped motorcycles when I was a kid 
and he's a retired helicopter mechanic. I can keep 
a bike running, but I can't build one from the 
ground up like he can. I have a couple motorcycles.
My Kawasaki Z900RS is my dream bike. I wouldn't trade 
it for anything but another one just like it. I 
have a 2022 Honda Monkey in "Banana Yellow" that I 
probably ride more than anything. It is a 125cc one-
cylinder MONSTER!! Top speed with me on it (I'm over 
six feet tall and 200lbs) is about 50-55mph. It has
about 12hp and 9ft-lbs of torque. Fast it is not, but
it gets ~150mpg; I can ride it ~100 miles and then 
put a couple bucks in it to fill up its 0.9gal tank.
It's fun to ride and people always smile at me when 
they see me on the road; I look like a gorilla riding
on a football, and it couldn't be more fun.

There is an old saying that is very true: "It is 
more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike 
slow." 

I am married and I have two adult children. I'd tell 
you about them, but HEY! This is an ABOUT *ME* page! 
They can get their own gopherholes!
