Before a Dream Although the day is nearly done, my rampant thoughts have just begun, and woe, I find, to my distaste, I lost my way today, in haste. So slowly thoughts are forming now, my mind itself can not allow, to rest its eye despite the night, while dreams illuminate my sight. But while I try to paint the day with brush in hand, I'm led astray. A dash of red, I could suggest; a secret wish, my eyes' request, a softer stroke than might have been to bring the strength to wake again. But in this tired state I've lied, and rest is what I've been denied. So while my mind ---in search of peace--- does illustrate a masterpiece, though vagrant images do please the hope the conjure quickly flees. For when into my sleep I wander summing up a moment's ponder: Imagination dancing, humming, tired heart beating, slowly drumming. Tomorrow the view will stand restored and following me, my hopes ignored.
