16 April 2025 ============= Man, the current news cycle is making my brain hurt... every other day you either hear about some astoundingly stupid idea Trump comes up with, new ways of our politicians to invade our privacy our the simple fact that the climate is breaking down around us and simply nobody seems to care. At least nobody that could drive CHANGES is caring. Yesterday evening was one of those moments: While with junior at my parents, the TV running in the background i could follow the weather forecast: While the weatherman told the audience that it is now FINALLY raining after a much, much too long dry period the main host of the show told the audience simply "Well... whatever, i was really enjoying the warm weather and hope the rain won't stay too long". I had to really constrain myself to refrain from the urge of slamming my head into the next wall. A fatalistic part of myself thinks: Perhaps Trump DOES something good in the long run... a collapse of the world economy with massive downsizing in living standards may indeed be good to slow down and - in the long term - stop climate change. The giant amount of suffering this all brings on the other hand... Well, lets move toward more positive things. Its amazing to watch how far junior has come in two years. He wants to find out how things work and wants to do everything himself. And we are letting him. At breakfast he is now (mostly) able to prepare his bread for himself and he is extremely proud about it. The times when he manages to put more marmelade on the bread instead of the surrounding area are at least increasing. Still, he doesn't want to sleep in his own bed. We are not pressuring him, just trying every other evening or so... if he doesn't want? Fine, some day it will work. He has now found a new love for everything that flies, be it paper airplanes, birds or everything else. Perhaps, if his interest keeps up there is a new modeler to step into his fathers footsteps... At work things are moving slow, last week we made a big update on our ERP system and we now FINALLY have a decent documentation for it. Now diving ever deeper into the documentation i discover features we have not used or used simply wrong now for years. Well, who would have guessed that having a support contract for a software and not only handing over a big pile of money for an update skipping several major versions every X years would have its benefits... I mean, i was telling this since i started working here ~10 years ago, but who am i to know?
