13 November 2025 ---------------- And again some time has passed since my last entry in this phlog. Well, i have an excuse: My time was mostly split between spending time at the job, moving my mother to various doctors (nothing too serious... just things that were pushed more and more into the future over the last couple of years until it had some consequences) and me being sick with the flu again. But here i am, back in full strength and now with somewhat more time to spend again... yay! I run Arch... ehm... Artix by the way! -------------------------------------- The end of the support for Windows 10 has brought me the opportunity to snatch... eeehm... i mean "rescue" a nice semi rugged laptop with some quad core Intel processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 120 GB SSD. The battery is absolutely fine and the thing runs about 8 hours on one charge. The laptop was formerly used by a technician of a telecom-company and has also a touch screen and an integrated stylus. As i - for some reason - always gravitate to more exotic solutions this time i opted for Artix Linux with the s6 [1] init system. The installation followed more or less the Arch Linux pattern and is not much of a challenge if you have lived through the rough times of Linux back in the 90s. I think it took me a bit under a hour to install the base system and after that i could boot right into the new system. For the graphical environment i chose the combination of xlibre and dwm with the whole set of suckless tools. Surprisingly, even with this X11 fork being still heavily worked on i encountered no problems. Working with another init system and distribution type requires a bit of re-wiring in the brain but this is one of the reason i opted for this way. The Fediverse ------------- Well, i dipped my toes into the Fediverse multiple times over the last couple of years, but mostly into the microbloggy style of services. After participating some time i always found out that this is an activity i personally am not made for and so i abandoned it always after some time. But recently i have started to dabble a bit more into another corner of this part of the net: Lemmy. Lemmy is more or less a clone of Reddit. But decentralized. The people that are aggregating there are a weird amalgamation of hackers, nerds, crazy people and radicals of every color. All in all it feels like Usenet reborn. What i personally miss is a good command line client for it, perhaps, when i have more time at hand, somewhere in the future, this would be a nice project to code for me. But wait and see... Junior ------ Junior is growing and developing at a rate that is fascinating and terrifying at the same time. He is now absolutely eager to help us with household tasks and other things that needs to be done around the house. And the funny thing is: He is really getting to the point where he is a useful helper at those tasks - and he is having tons of fun doing so. Two days ago we participated in the lantern walk that is custom on St. Martin (11th of November) and, while he was a bit nervous around so many people, he enjoyed it. My wife and i also noticed that we need to practice singing a bit more, i bet everyone heard our off-tone voices out of all the people singing. [1] https://wiki.artixlinux.org/Main/S6
