I recently accompanied my boyfriend on an excursion organized by his workplace to see the Elettra Synchrotron located on the outskirts of Trieste. I am so grateful that I could have the opportunity to do so and can't possibly thank him enough or axpress my gratitude to the organizers of this excursion, who made this possible. Not only was this my first time in Italy, but more importantly it was wonderful to gain some insights into the kind of science he does and is interested in along with learning about the highly inter-disciplinary nature of research that occurs at this facility. Our trip was relatively short and outside of getting a tour of the facility, we had little time to explore the city or do other touristy things. However, we spent our evening enjoying dinner which consisted of authentic Italian Pizzas followed by decadent pistachio and lemon cream cake, at a nice cozy pizzeria and catching the sunset on the beach. Italy is absolutely beautiful and I do hope I have the opportunity again to visit.
