IS LEARNING LINUX, EMACS AND THE COMMAND LINE SIMPLY A DISTRACTION? Just before I sat down to write this Gopher entry, I was watching a YouTube video from NetworkChuck, one of the most entertaining programming content creators. He was setting up and playing around in Omarchy, a Linux variant of Arch Linux that is connected to a selection of AI services. As I was watching the video and wanting to try what he was doing in his video, I had to stop myself from going home and wiping one of my spare laptops as soon as I got home tonight. But I've noticed a pattern to where something grabs my attention as very interesting, but I don't stay focused on it and exploring it more for a deeper understanding and gaining some proficiency with it. I'm learning and finally coming to an agreement with myself to spend some time with each system and protocol and put others onto a, "wish list" for a future date. I've also come to a decision that playing with and exploring these systems is worth my time. Yes, it doesn't immediately pay off in monetary gain, but it expands my knowledge base and allows me to become more programming-minded. It will allow me the chance to learn other more modern systems as I'll hopefully have built a solid foundation in the fundamentals of programming. Also, I enjoy it. I learning new skills and don't feel like my skills are stagnating.
