The amazing maple trees have grown so close together that there is almost no space between them. A small gap in these living towers can be seen to the northeast, and another to the west. It is the sound of insects, thousands of them. These woods have become the home for a great swarm of these little pests. None of these bugs seem to take a special notice of you at this moment, but you are careful not to turn you back on them. The stink of the rankish water fills your senses and you think that you would not go swimming here for all the gold in the world. There is a small jester jumping around in front of it, but as he sees you he takes flight and heads back towards the woods. ~ S #28010 A Small Path in the Forest~ The path is quite small here, with large tree limiting the options of travel. The foul stench of standing water wafts in from the west. To the north lies a small clearing. To the east, a swarm of bees has taken up residence. You are sure that if you even blinked, they would strike. To the east you see a large hive hanging from a tree. Most of the branches are far to high for you to reach, but one particular branch reaches down to you. Hanging from this branch is a massive bee hive. Suddenly you realize that bees are all around you, and they do not look happy with you at all. On this branch hangs a large bee hive. ~ S #28014 A small path in a big forest~ The stench is very strong here, wafting in from the northwest almost faster than you can take. The smell reminds you of the torture chambers in a castle, or the catacombs under a monestary. You grit your teeth and decide to move on, but you aren't quite sure weather to go northwest and discover the source of the smell, or to simply go east, back to a better smelling section of the forest. ~ 0 0 3 D1 ~ ~ 0 0 28005 D7 Whatever that foul smeel is, it's coming from this direction.~ ~ 0 0 28015 S #28015 A traveler's resting place~ As you advance from the southeast, you are quick to discover the source of the horrid smell. It seems that some traveler, much like your self, met his untimely dimise in this very spot. The flys in this place swarm about, all of them wanting a piece of the action. Most of the grass is dead here, and most of the flowers have been worn down to the stem. They look almost as if they have been chewed by a thousand little angry teeth.~ S #28018 An eaten-away clearing~ The vegetation here is eaten away to the core. Not a single green thing lays within your sight. It seems that the ants inhabiting this region of the forest are very hungry creatures. They swarm around you, never stopping in their quest to glean supplies from the surronding area. A small dirt mound is to the north, and a path leads back in the forest to the west. ~ 0 0 3 D3 ~ ~ 0 0 28017 D0 ~ ~ 0 0 28019 S #28019 At the Ant Hill~ Before you is a small dirt mound, about two feet high. Soldier ants, scouts, and workers all scurry in and out at a grueling pace. None of the tiny insects seem to even care how big you are, they simply go around your feet and scurry away from your boots at every step you take. ~ 0 0 3 D2 ~ ~ 0 0 28018 E hill mound~ The mound is four feet in diameter and about two feet high. The hole is way to small for you to climb down.~ S #28020 The center of the forest~ As you walk in the center of the forest, you notice that the insects are thinning out. Only a few gnats and a buzzing from the south remind you of how bug-infested this forest really is. The path contines north and south through the forest. ~ 0 0 3 D2 ~ ~ 0 0 28016 D0 ~ ~ 0 0 28021 S #28021 Entering the Pines~ with the center of the forest to your south, you standing among pine trees so tall the you swear they could punch through the heavens and pull down the sun and moon. Some birds dart around within the massive branches.~ S #28022 In front of a cave~ You stand in front of a small, cozy-looking cave. No sounds, save the songs of birds and the humming of insects, can be heard. A few small rock formations reach their way up from the floor, almost as if they are trying to touch their brothers and sisters that hang from the ceiling. The walls are farther apart, and the ceiling, which is currently home to a half dozen bats, is rather high. To the south, through the pines, you can make out the entrance to a cave and some maples trees father south from that.
