The trees condense around you and the light slowly but surely becomes more and more scarce as it is blocked by the canopy overhead. The conditions only seem to worsen yonder up the path. ~ 0 1048580 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 1002 S #1002 Into Forest~ The path runs east into very thick forest. The trees grow so tall and mighty that they block out practically all the light, allowing only a sliver to cut in here and there, creating an eternal atmosphere of gloom and darkness. Wild shrubbery grows thick throughout these woods, clumping in especially large clusters around the base of the enormous trees. Moss and vines drape down wildly in haphazard fashion, blocking your view tremendously and also providing a very slap-happy journey. A cool, eerie mist creeps along the ground, so thick that you can not see your own feet within its ghostly white form. Here and there giant mushrooms sprout from within the mist, their odd-shaped toadstool tops leaning at abnormal angles. From shroom to whimsical mushroom seems to be growing a thick vein of sticky, sappy fungus, its oozing length spewing puss and sometimes popping in bubbles, releasing a foul odour that only serves to invade your senses, debilitating your reason, and causing intense delirium. ~ 0 1048580 1 D1 ~ ~ 0 -1 1003 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 1001 S #1003 Into Forest~ The perilous path continues, unfaltering in its frustrating manner.The dense vines, moss, and other growth that drapes from every branch is only getting worse, more thicker, more stickier, with every couple of yards. The once humble shrubberies have now formed into wicked, spiked bushyards which threaten to poke and prick should one stray too near. The foul odor seems to grow more pungent,indicative of ill tidings ahead. Any coward would turn back now. The path turns up and out of sight ahead a little ways. The darkness overcomes any hope of light now, leaving behind only night eternal. The strange, exotic mushrooms grow much larger and more rampant in these deeper woods, creating quite a strange and foreign scene of wonder. ~ 0 1073741824 1 D3 ~ ~ 0 -1 1002 D6 ~ ~ 0 -1 1004 S #1004 Into Forest~ Now heading north, the 'path' becomes quite unstable, breaking away here and there in ever-increasing gaps. Soon there is no such path remaining at all, only thick wild mushrooms growing in dense lawns between the enormous trees of antiquity. Large rocks and boulders erupt from the ground here and there among the mushroom patches, but are completely overgrown with mosses and fungi to the point where they seem like enormous organic clumps of forest. Quite a rare sight to behold indeed, they certainly must have been left undisturbed for some time in order to grow as such. The trees clump in around you, forming the only sensible walkway through their barbarous, vine and moss draped boughs. The once incomprehensible odour now takes the form of various disgusting scents, rotting meat among the most prevalent. Whatever abominable sights lay up ahead, your path is destined towards them. ~ 0 1074790400 1 D6 ~ ~ 0 -1 1005 D9 ~ ~ 0 -1 1003 S #1005 A ghastly scene~ The smell becomes so strong it is almost unbearable, threatening to extinguish conciousness with every ailing breath. The incessant buzzing of flies has been growing louder and louder, and now you are surrounded by tons of them, all buzzing madly around this small grassy clearing, devoid of rock and bush in an oval form. The swarm is especially concentrated over a small patch up ahead in the grass, carrion of some type that matted the grass down in its death. Upon closer inspection however, it appears it is not some random animal of Nature, but rather a fellow adventurer like yourself, at least, what is left of him. What with natural decay and the feeding frenzies of the flies, all thats left upon the floor is a vile, half-eaten carcass, with exposed bone and tissues. The flies have made it a home as well as a feast, and here and there all over the 'body' are pockets of larvae nurseries. Quite a gruesome sight... Whatever killed this adventurer, could possibly still be out there. ~ 0 1074790400 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 1006 D9 ~ ~ 0 -1 1004 S #1006 Walking through the woods~ The grasses, shrubs, trees, and rocks all seem to clear away quite suddenly leaving lots of room to walk around. The thick canopy of intertwined branches still thrives strongly up above, however, creating a large tree-dome of sorts, blocking out all the light but still leaving lots of room for any darkness-loving creatures to live and roam. ~ 0 1074790404 1 D0 ~ ~ 0 -1 1007 D2 ~ ~ 0 -1 1005 R M 0 1001 1 1006 R E 0 1001 1 13 S #1007 Above a gaping pit~ The path emerges into an enormous clearing, the thick wall of trees spanning outward in both directions and wrapping around into a very wide oval. In the middle of the clearing an enormous cavern descends straight into the earth, its boundaries fortified with dirt and stone walls. Gargoyles fly in and out of the hole constantly: it must be a dwelling or lair of some kind. The odour has grown quite putrid now, and the disgusting fungus that ran along the ground in thick tendrils continues to run all over this clearing and up into the pit, where it curves over the mound-forts in great, giant lumbering pillars of drooling stickiness. All around from the fungal lengths sprouts great pillars of the disgusting substance, all of it dripping and oozing in the same pussy fluid as before. There isn't much here, just a small natural spring, and a larger then average stone bench sitting facing it. The 'spring' is hardly anything spectacular, its more like a gurgling leak, letting loose a small torrent of water that loudly bubbles and froths out of a hole only a couple of inches in circumerance. Its waters gather and disappear into the tall grasses and thick dark muds that make up the floor of this small clearing. A very old sagely figure sits on the stone bench, sitting and watching the gurgling water, one hand rested on a mighty staff, the other atop his knee. He is an incredibly large figure, and his feet end in sharp, bird-like talons, as do his fingers. This is no human. ~ 0 1074790404 1 D9 ~ ~ 0 -1 1007 R M 0 1003 1 1008 R E 0 1001 1 13 S #1009 Descent into darkness...~ The earthen fortification is built right up to the very lip of the enormous hole, and upon being crossed over, leads directly into a very perilous descent. The walls are completely coated in the thick, runny slime, and the only thing you can stand on is the random boulders and other jagged outgrowths of earth from the sides of the hole, which is not straight down, but rather a mix of straight down and very odd angles. It is wide enough to fit at least three ogres and then have some room left over for an army of goblins. Enormous mushrooms grow from the slimy fungus, their gargantuan umbrella-tops facing at you, sucking in and out as if with the beating of a live heart. In fact, the entire wall is breathing with the same beating motion, and you can swear you hear the faint sound of a gasping, ventilated breathing... could it be this fungus is beyond the range of living of that of normal fungi? Pondering these questions as you descend even further, the light having been diminishing rapidly is now fully cut off, and the opening above is a ring that seems to be getting smaller and smaller. ~ 0 1074790405 1 D4 ~ ~ 0 -1 1007 D5 ~ ~ 0 -1 1010 > all_greet_prog 66~ mpecho &YA very shrill yell emanates from within the tunnel, and suddenly mpecho &Ya gargoyle ascends upon you! mpmload 1009 ~ | S #1010 First Floor~ The great shaft of a cavern levels out slightly here and opens up wide into the underground, splitting off into a cave. The enormous hole continues down into further darkness. All about the disgusting, oozing fungus grows, with its slimy dripping pillars of slop hanging hideously from the ceilings, and all up and down the shaft, making it slick and impossible to hold onto without the aid of flight. All around gargoyles run, walk, fly, and scamper, heading nowhere in particular, just living there wild gargoyle lives. A few close by seem alarmed at your presence, snarling and baring their fangs in response. Lots of bones are strewn about the entire place, and the smell is completely and utterly putrid, a mix of rotting decay, fungal matter, and shit. The fungus isn't as strong in this room, and in some bare patches in the walls lots of sleeping cubbies have been hollowed out. The stone floor butts up against a stream that flows in from under the surrounding earth and then out from sight back under the massive stone wall. It is roughly five feet wide, and smoothly flowing.
