* What the hell am I doing with my life?

  It is not the machine beauty, but the problem you are solving that
  should excite you. If it doesn't, your gut might be telling you
  that you are trying to do something else than you really
  want. Search your soul and find a more attractive goal (not
  necessarily in the realm of computers), and you will love the tools
  that help you to achieve it.

The above comment about being excited about a programming language
really struck me. I seem to spend a good deal of time exciting myself
about languages and other supporting technology. On the other hand,
the Great Project in which I have invested years never quite seems to
build up to critical mass where volumes of useful code get
generated. And consider its purpose: to construct an online framework
for storing and presenting files I generate on future projects (like
learning programming language x). 

Am I really that excited by my interminable current project? Is there
some goal that is more attractive to me? Is it time to put aside the
time, energy, and identity I've invested in computers and
programming?
