HEALTHCARE SPEECH (Posted 2009-09-10 18:32:27 by ArchPaladin) I've been idly following the ruckus that has been in the media concerning healthcare reform. It's amazing to see how loudly radio pundits will shout to try and disrupt all attempts for change. Idly, I wonder what their specific reasons are for such behavior. At any rate, Obama gave a speech yesterday about his proposed changes, to help try and unify Congress on the issue. I was in class and couldn't hear it, but I did find a transcript [ http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/09/politics/main5299229.shtml ] [cbsnews.com] graciously provided by CBS. There was also a French article that I read which pointed me to this Time article [ http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1921447,00.html ] [time.com]. The Time article thought that Obama should be more politically oppressive to Congress members - as though he should be very heavy handed and try to force/shame them into action instead of digging their heels in further. I have to admit I'm not actually sure what he could do if they don't work together. I wasn't aware that there were any Presidential powers that would apply here, apart from whatever backhand political deals that he has probably learned. Nevertheless, I think what Obama talks about is a good idea. Trying to use the market as much as possible, while not backing down on the commitment to providing (and requiring!) health insurance for everyone. I wonder how much resistance we'll see to these statements. I really hope that they get something together for when I get out of school, although I don't know if this will make me want to take insurance any more than I already don't want. -------- There are no comments on this post.
