LOW POWER RADIO

It is somewhat discouraging for me that most all radio stations play very
canned hits.  There's not a lot of musical originality, or even really a
diversity of musical genre outside of a small subset of ratings-grabbers.

I think the appropriate solution to this is low power radio [

easy to configure community radio stations broadcasting music from local
musicians or other programming that reflects the quirks of the local
community.  This would be absolutely awesome to do.  There are even
organizations [ http://prometheusradio.org/ ] [prometheusradio.org] to help
you get set up with all the technical details.

I mention all this because currently you can't do it at all - licenses for
low power stations are not being offered.  How dumb to have such an
opportunity for richness right at your fingertips and not be able to take
advantage of it.  Society is really good at shooting itself in the foot.
