Even as the city grew smaller and more familiar, it grew larger. C--- got to know the central district, the view from the train window, the streets around the neighbourhood in which she had finally found a room to live. At the same time, she was continually uncovering, or stumbling blind, into new ones, one wrong turn on a walk leading her to an unfamiliar neighbourhood, a missed stop propelling her into the satellite districts, small cities in themselves, contiguous with the rest of the urban sprawl but eerily separate, too.
