[ Readjusting It took a while to get over jet lag this time. It seems like each year it takes longer and longer, which I guess is due to getting older (and older). Dealing with jet lag when you have to return to work is not a nice thing. I can hear the rain outside again; it has been raining every day for a week. In Tokyo it's been mostly calm, but there was terrible flooding in central Japan. On the news was footage of cars and buses cutting through small waves in the middle of Nagoya, water cascading down like a waterfall in the subway, and of an otherwise tranquil river turned into raging rapids. It's quite frightening to see this new kind of weather pattern, when I look back at the last few years. Working almost 100% remote means I haven't had much culture shock (reverse- reverse culture shock?) since getting back. I was in the US longer than usual this summer though, so I had a few times over there where I wanted to run home and shut the door. I like to walk around and explore, but a few times it became overwhelming and I felt like I was walking the map in GTA V: sirens blaring, cars honking at each other, and people of all kinds walking around talking loudly on their phones. About nothing. Thankfully it's not like that here. Ambulances won't pull up right behind you and lean on their horn, cars don't honk much and I was taught in driving school not to use it unless necessary (it's rude) and I don't see/hear people having loud phone conversations. Another bonus is that people here don't run around with BT speakers broadcasting their questionnable taste in music. Oh, and no one harasses me on the street. I think the sun is coming out on Monday. I am looking forward to it.
