[ Rainy September We broke a record here in Tokyo: we had 34 consecutive days of rain. I feel like it rained every day last month. The sun finally came out yesterday, but it was cloudy again today. Unbelievably, Typhoon #27 is heading north towards us when #26 just passed by earlier this week and #25 before that. I can't even keep track of them anymore. At least autumn seems to have finally arrived. It is rather chilly this evening and it's cool in the mornings. It was quite hot yesterday, but the oppresive humidity of August is now thankfully gone. Also, a record for me: my NetBSD box has a current uptime of 403 days. I am currently reading "Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan" by Lafcadio Hearn [1]. I confess ordinarily I don't have any interest in the supernatural, but I have readlly enjoyed his narratives of Japan. Along the way I learned some new (old) words like "obduracy", "wending" and "jocose", though I doubt I can use them in daily conversation. Earlier this year I read "Unbeaten Tracks in Japan" [2] which is also from around the late 1800s. The author, Isabella Bird, wrote numerous other books such as her travels around the US mainland and Hawaii, so my reading list is full for a while. There's usually something to watch on TV here in the evenings, but recently they've been preemting programs for sports, and I hate it when they do that. I found some good TV shows from the 1970s (my favorite decade) on youtube, so I have been watching them to get my fix before they're pulled and the channel is killed off. Only 84 days until Christmas. [1] https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8130 [2] https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2184
