[ More PalmOS-ing

Since I got the Expenses plugin for jpilot compiled and working, I have been
using the Expenses program itself on PalmOS. I had been musing over whether it
was possible to change the Expense Types in it though, since the default ones
seem to be for jet-setting business people with things like "Hotel", "Laundry"
and "Mileage". Well, the answer is yes, but it's not easy.

I used two programs:
1. RsrcEdit for PalmOS [1]
2. Hex Fiend for macOS [2]
I was able to find that these Expense Types names are in Expense_enUS.prc (in a
US PalmOS ROM) in/at tSTL 100. RsrcEdit opens things read-only, but Hex Fiend
can make changes. The deeper I got into it though, the more complicated it all
became. I found Romeo[3] which allows for working with ROMs, but I abandoned
the whole idea after getting in pretty deep and realizing that I'd wandered far
past my pay grade.

As a workaround I just choose what ever Expense Type is closest, then tap on
Details. In that submenu you can customize Categories, Currencies, and also add
Notes, for example with the date and time and a comment. It works nicely.

I found that the original Palm Desktop that came with the Palm V has an Expense
button. When you click it, it opens Excel (if you have it installed) and it
makes a spreadsheet that you can sign at the bottom and then hand in at work.
Pretty neat. The Japanese version of the Palm Desktop (that I used) created a
CSV file which opened nicely in OpenOffice. Also neat.

I am continually pleased that these devices are still very relevant today.
