[ Still more fun with PalmOS

I keep falling further down the rabbit hole, and I wonder if I'll be able to
get back to 2026 again.

I sometimes use the original Palm Desktop for Windows to sync Palm devices (it
works on Win10 with a driver installation) and recently I wanted to try syncing
expenses. There's an Expense program for PalmOS (built in) that I find clunky,
but at the same time useful. When you sync it produces a .pdb file, but I could
not figure out how to import or extract that .pdb into something where I could
get the data. I wasted a good deal of time going through help files and Palm
handbooks trying to figure it out on the Windows side, then I gave up and
looked into jpilot.

There is an Expenses plugin for jpilot that one just has to compile, but I can
not compile my way out of a wet paper bag anymore, thought I did get it done in
the end. I found afterwards though that I couldn't export or print the imported
data. A script using Python helped make exporting to CSV possible. The only
other complaint I have is with the Expense program itself: the list of Expense
types cannot be changed, and it's not the best. I like that it has "Fax" and
"Postage" in it, which reminds me of the 1990s, but I'd like to be able to add
things like "Food" at least. Maybe a resource editor can do that?

Finally, I wanted to get my PalmOS 5 devices back online, and I was able to get
a simple hotspot set up that allows this. It's not on all the time; it's just a
Raspberry Pi 3 with a script that lets me to turn the access point on and off.
I turned the power way down so the signal doesn't go very far. It was 20 years
since I last had a T|C online, and I forgot that the activity light on top
blinks with throughput. As far as I can tell, none of these old Palms support
https, but that's okay.

I have some other ideas in the pipeline, but I think I need to slow down ...
