08:38 CDT ========================================================================== Yesterday, the doctor gave me the all-clear on my left eye. I can start lifting my pedal steel guitar and related gear again. So tonight, I'll be with Wrangler Country at the Schertz VFW. It will feel good to get back in the saddle. I always feel a little antsy when I'm not gigging. Absolutely nothing is scheduled for the lab today. There is no legitimate reason for me to be physically on campus. And yet, here we are. At least my expertise at being invisible at work will serve me well. ;) I was surprised that it took me only 88 minutes to arrive at work. I did stop at Costco to gas up. Gas is currently at $3.79 per gallon. Last week, it was $3.49. I'm just glad that I don't live in an area where it's even higher. A cold front (cold to us Texans) moved in overnight. It's currently 64 degrees F with gusty winds in Austin. The sky is completely overcast. Lucky for me, I don't have to look at the dreariness outside. Still, it is better than triple-digit temperatures. 09:50 CDT ========================================================================== This may seem strange, but instead of looking at my news feeds via TUI, I started off with my feeds that don't readily publish via RSS. The browser experience just feels bloated and clunky, even with extensions installed in Firefox to lighten the load. I went back to Newsboat (https://newsboat.org/), and the experience felt more comfortable to me. I know that I can't realistically eschew a GUI 100%. But I do have the option to ignore it for a lot of my computer usage. At least I'm not locked into MS Windows or MacOS. 15:06 CDT ========================================================================== The wind is still up, but the sky has cleared. As expected, nothing has been going on today. I guess that if they want to pay me to watch an empty computer lab all day, then who am I to refuse? ;)
