m08:41 CDT ================================================================================ I got behind on my entries in here. I spent the weekend pretty much chilling. I'm on temporary light duty (lift no more than 10 pounds, no bending over, etc) until my follow-up appointment this Thursday. I did remember that I had a cheap HP laptop that originally ran Windows 10, with an Intel Celeron N3350 processer, 4GB of RAM, and a 65GB SSD soldered on the motherboard. I dug it out of the garage, and loaded Debian Trixie sans desktop environment on it. Unlike my Dell Vostro 3300, the battery still works on the HP. Just for grins, I left it idling for about 6 hours on Wifi last night. The battery dropped to just 85% in this time. Since the build of this HP is cheaper than my Dell, it is lighter. I decided that the HP would be my primary laptop to ride in my backpack as my daily driver. During the morning commute, I noticed that oncoming headlights no longer produced halos in my left eye. I'll be glad when the right eye is also corrected. I could really use a new eyeglass prescription. Speaking of the commute, it took me 79 minutes to reach work. It felt longer. I'm getting readjusted to using my work-issued Macbook again. There is no sense in keeping it at home since remote work is now dead to me. I will say that I don't mind using a zsh terminal on it. That is one saving grace to MacOS these days. 09:32 CDT ================================================================================ Yesterday, I received a reminder of why I have a disdain for Windows when comparing it to a Linux distro. One of my mini PCs at home came with Windows 11. I left it on there dual-booted with Linux Mint in case I ever needed a Windows computer available. It usually stays idling on Linux as a print server and a Paperless-NGX server. Anyway, it had been a long time since I booted it to Win11. I decided to update Windows on it. Those are hours that I will never get back. It took FOREVER for the updates to download, and then MORE hours to install, reboot, reboot, etc. It was murder! 11:01 CDT ================================================================================ The second group has finished their test. The last test starts at 16:30. I'll hang around just long enough to get them started, then I'll head for home.
