New statistics from the Italian government: 20% of Italian students who complete a Bachelor+Master University cycle (a minimum 5 years study period) doesn't get a job in 12 months. Now the words of my ex-professor of AI come to mind: yes, all this frenzy of students to get a Master's degree here and go work in other Coutries: don't you think about who's been forming you for all these years? Don't you want to give back to your own Country, staying here to fight? (exact words may have been paraphrased, of course). I would stay, really. But it'd be not about giving back, it would be to stay with friends and family. As to give back, I can just hope to be brilliant in what I will do for the rest of my life, and point people to Italy - or rather, to Italy's University system. Because I believe that Italy and its University system have split a long time ago. The latter has been leading innovation in many fields (researchers at home, albeit with limited funds and Italian researchers in the world), whereas the former was at home, watching TV. I don't believe I owe anything to the people who have been ruining my Italy, one TV program at a time. And I want to survive somehow; but clinging to the remnants of Italy is not a viable solution, and is less of a solution every day on.
