00003.txt: Attention Terry Gross interviewed Wes Anderson tonight. She asked him what he was like growing up, as many of his movies are like models he has built--Anderson didn't go into what he was like as a teenager so much as he described his friend's interest in WWII. He mentioned those little Time-Life books that were so popular in the 70s; some kids he knew memorized the silhouette of every war plane and AFV, for example. I remember having a few of those books. They were good. I remember that time of my life, when a young man can explore an obsession without really thinking it a strange thing to do (though I also remember keeping my interests to myself, to avoid teasing). It was a good time, and I think the intense attention you bring to your little obsessions at that time is what makes those years formative. 2014-03-15
