sun24jan99 (want a date?) ---------------------------------------------------------- there was a colossal jam on the dan ryan tonight so I took the road to memphis instead so I fileted chicago up halsted until right on marquette. then on to lake shore drive by u of chicago and on up home. people, the south-central side of chicago is an autistic city all its own. englewood.... roselawn... but I also saw neighborly homes... so dark. so black. cuz only black people live there. chicago people, how can we live such a dual lie. the only bright lights: a laundromat and liquor stores and the chicken and bbq shacks sure, it was eleven at night but no trees droopin the little white lights like on michigan avenue north like at front of st. francis hospital in evanston people, there were times when i felt so scared that someone would just shoot me through the window to take away from me my running car well, it is running. why, wouldn't you? what would push you to riot in the streets these days or take my car? the 1999 winter on this day wasn't the date.
