		i did not choose, i pressed instinctively
		i did not linger, i tested the bend
		tried the hard edge of the curving belly
		then separated stepped aside
		i had something to say

		touched the bronze cape, or drape or whatever
		that flows down congealed around the seated president
		with the tips of my left finger
		saluting with my fingertips
		a tip-in a tap a connect -- in memoriam

		we have lincoln sitting in grant park
		and grant horsebacking in lincoln
		it's a mixed up world, except for bob knight
		boys will be boys
		and girls will be girls

		and some will see a lot of red
		and i do not quite know what to make of
		the rude news appalling me instead tonight

		s) because tonight is like any other night...
		c) sad and sorry what a sickening sight...
		h) while chicago in evening fog gently weeps...

		our city is
